Excursions

As is traditional at every Celtic Studies Congress, we will be offering a selection of optional excursions on the middle day of the conference (Wednesday 15th July). These offer a chance to get out of the city and take in some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery, exploring sites of archaeological and historical interest, or simply enjoying Scottish hospitality in a beautiful setting.

All excursions leave the University at 9am prompt (please assemble by 8.45am) EXCEPT FOR THE BUTE TRIP WHICH WILL LEAVE AT 8.30am, PLEASE ASSEMBLE FOR THIS TRIP AT 8.15am. Return times vary and while every effort will be made to meet them, they cannot be guaranteed (see individual excursions for details).

All tours will be accompanied by an expert guide and PG stewards. Travel will be in luxury coaches which are equipped with toilets. Some tours involve travel by Calmac or other ferry. Prices include all transport and admission fees. See individual itineraries for details of meals and other refreshments included.

All excursions include a period of time in the open and you are advised to come prepared for the full gamut of Scottish summer weather: sunscreen, waterproof jackets and appropriate footwear are advised for all excursions. Note: both Dunadd and Dumbarton Castle involve short but steep ascents (up a rough path and stone steps respectively). The reward at the top of each is a spectacular view, but do wear appropriate footwear for safety and comfort. Stout footwear is also recommended for the Incholme and the Antonine Wall excursions (the latter involves a pleasant level walk of about 1.5 km along a country path). See individual itineraries for further details.

Places are restricted for each excursion and we would strongly encourage you to book at the earliest opportunity to secure your place. Under-subscribed tours may be subject to cancellation. N.B. While every effort will be made to run the tours as described, we reserve the right to alter details of excursions if necessary.

PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT 08.45 OUTSIDE THE WOLFSON BUILDING, UNIVERSITY AVENUE, FOR PROMPT DEPARTURE AT 09.00.

(EXCEPT FOR THE BUTE TRIP WHICH WILL LEAVE AT 8.30am, PLEASE ASSEMBLE FOR THIS TRIP AT 8.15am.)
